What is Hairline Lowering?

Reduce forehead height

Hairline Lowering, or hairline advancement, is a cosmetic procedure that reduces the height of your forehead. Also known as forehead reduction surgery, this surgery results in a shorter forehead and subsequently a more balanced face. This procedure can also be combined with a browlift, if desired.

Benefits of Hairline Lowering

Decrease the prominence of your forehead

This procedure can help reduce the size of your forehead, which affects the entire proportion of your face. By decreasing the prominence of your forehead, you can bring the rest of your features into better harmony. The procedure also uses the same incision as a trichial or “hairline” browlift, so if desired, a browlift can be performed at the same time.

Am I a Candidate for Hairline Lowering in New Orleans?

If you are unhappy with the size of your forehead, Hairline Lowering or hairline advancement can provide better balance to your face.

To find out if you’re eligible for this surgery, schedule a consultation with Dr. Melancon so she can review your medical history and examine you. Ideal candidates should have good scalp laxity and no family history of pattern balding. To find out more, contact Audubon Facial Plastic Surgery to book your consultation today.

The Hairline Lowering Procedure

This surgery is an outpatient procedure that can take several hours, depending on whether you combine it with a browlift or other procedure. You will be under general anesthesia or sedation for the entire process.

Dr. Melancon will begin by marking the part of your forehead that will be removed. She will then make incisions along the hairline according to these marks. Next, the scalp is elevated all the way to the back of the head and then brought forward. The extra skin from the forehead is then removed, shortening the forehead. Once complete, Dr. Melancon will meticulously close the incision with sutures along the hairline so that the scar will be minimized and hidden as your hair grows back.

Recovery from Hairline Lowering

your incision will become less and less visible

You should be able to return home the same day as your procedure. You will have a large dressing covering your head that will be removed the following day. Sutures will come out after about 7-10 days. Over time, your incision will become less and less visible, especially as your hair grows through the incision line. It takes a full year for a scar to heal entirely. You will need to avoid any strenuous activity for about 6 weeks.
