What is PRP Hair Restoration?

Regenerate hair growth

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is found within your own blood and is full of growth factors that can promote tissue regeneration, healing, collagen stimulation and hair restoration. It is completely natural and is created by a simple blood draw of your own blood. Next, the PRP is separated from other blood components using a centrifuge. PRP can be used in many different ways, but at Audubon Facial Plastic Surgery, primarily we use PRP for hair restoration and to promote wound healing in larger surgeries such as a facelift. By injecting PRP into your scalp, these condensed platelets and growth factors stimulate the hair follicles to grow over time, resulting in hair growth. Generally, it is recommended that you undergo several sessions about 6 months apart to encourage growth.

Benefits of PRP Hair Restoration

  • All natural, no required medications

Am I a Candidate for PRP Hair Restoration in New Orleans?

Not everyone will experience success from PRP hair restoration. Factors include the level of hair loss and underlying cause of the hair loss.

To find out if you are an eligible candidate, you will need to book a consultation with Dr. Melancon. This will allow her to examine you, review your history, and discuss whether PRP hair restoration is right for you. To find out more, contact Audubon Facial Plastic Surgery and book your appointment.

The PRP Hair Restoration Process

This treatment usually happens in the doctor’s office and takes about an hour. First, a simple blood draw will be performed. Dr. Melancon then puts your blood in a centrifuge, which spins and separates your plasma from your blood. Once the plasma is separated, Dr. Melancon will prepare your injections and then inject the PRP into the target areas. After this is complete, your treatment is done.

Recovery from PRP Hair Restoration

There is little to no downtime needed after your injection(s)

You may feel sore after the procedure at the injection sites, but that should quickly fade. You may also have slight swelling and bruising, which should go down quickly. Most people are able to resume their normal daily activities shortly after receiving a PRP injection.

Results from PRP Hair Restoration

Because this procedure uses your own plasma to stimulate hair growth, your results will take some time to become visible. Should the PRP injection be successful, you can expect a gradual improvement in your hairline over several months.
